Metsku in Kokkola was re-started in September 2007, almost from scratch. In those days there was only one active church-member left, a sweet little lady. We initiated the thought-process “rethink church”. What is a church? What does God want to create here? We came up with a lot of things that church is not: Church is not a building, not Christian activities, not an organisation, not a well-running company.
Church is family and church is celebration. Church is relationships where Jesus is in the center, joining hearts together. Church is open homes where Jesus is in our midst.
Since that many people have been part of this family for a shorter or a longer period. About half of the church-members are people that study in Kokkola for some time and then go back to other nations and cities. For them it can be extra important to be part of a family.
Rethink church happens continually. It is a challenge to keep the vision alive. Help us do it, welcome to join us!
Our vision and our mission
Our vision is to see lives changed. We want to see people experience the love of Jesus in a real way. That is why we want to make room for different forms of meeting-places with God where He can do His work.
Our mission is to help and equip people to become disciples of Jesus so that the world can be transformed. We believe this happens as we form mentoring relationships and smaller life-groups where everyone may grow and be challenged.
Seeking God. We want to set apart time for prayer and worship, individually and corporately.
Shared lives. We encourage all church-members to be part of a life-group.
Simplicity. We believe in the simple: a simple organisation, few organized activities, simple worship. We want to help people focus on the most important things in life.
Transparency. We want to be honest, true and trustworthy.
Hospitality. We practise open homes and underline the beauty of meeting in a simple way in homes.
Invitation. We like to invite people to our homes, our worship services or something else that we do. Most of all we like to help people into a personal relationship with Jesus.
The Apostles’ Creed
Our confession as a church is:
We believe in God, the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended into hell.
On the third day He rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy Christian Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
